  • Origami Workshop by Rich Gray

    Description:

    Rich Gray is a paper artist in Norfolk, Virginia whose primary focus is on origami and hand paper making. He started doing origami as a teenager and was later inspired by the handmade papers he saw in Japan.  Rich teaches workshops for adults and children. His work has been exhibited in Hampton Roads galleries and museums and his paper jewelry is sold in gift shops in the area.

    Violist Jena Chenkin is accomplished on both violin and viola and is a member of The Williamsburg Sympho
    nia. She also teaches violin at the Academy of Music in Norfolk. Her program "A Spoon Full of Sugar" engages participants by asking them to name the song and the food mentioned in the song as well as any memories they may have of the song or the food. The song title list includes; Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree, Tea for Two, Beer Barrel Polka, Yes! We have No Bananas, Habanera, Blueberry Hill, That’s Amore, Life is just a bowl of Cherries, Turkey in the Straw, Mairzy Doats, Summertime, Tarantella #1, A Spoonful of Sugar, Chattanooga Choo Choo, High Hopes, Take Me Out to the Ball Game and more.

  • Synnika Lofton's Poetry Project

    Description:

    Synnika Lofton's Poetry Project is an interactive experience that uses poetry, live drumming, and Call and Response techniques to creatively engage active adults and adults with Alzheimer's/Dementia. Synnika Lofton performs classical and modern poetry, while Gregory Lee plays light music with percussive instruments. At the close of the program, Synnika Lofton collaborates with residents to develop original poetry about memories, events, seasons, and favorite holidays.
