Positive Change Is On the Horizon

The mission of Tidewater Arts Outreach is to bring joy to older adults and enhance their well-being through creative engagement with the arts. Founded in 2003 by MaryAnn Toboz, Tidewater Arts Outreach has presented nearly 3,000 community training and outreach programs, has advocated for the needs of people in congregate and crisis care programs and has raised awareness about the benefits of engaging in the arts.

TAO execute all its programs and fundraising efforts with a very small staff, many volunteers and the generous support of our community.

After 15 years at the helm of our agency, MaryAnn has asked the board to create a plan for future sustainability.  To that end, we are currently undertaking a search for a new executive director and leader of the agency.  “We have been extremely fortunate for MaryAnn’s vision, insight, and industry over the past decade and a half. She has created and led a true jewel in our community,” said the board chair, Steve Stancliff. “Her tireless service to our community will ensure an enduring legacy of joy through experience in the arts for older adults and many others who would not have otherwise had access to the kind of uplifting engagement programs provided by Tidewater Arts Outreach. Her transition and eventual retirement will mark a significant milestone in the agency.  But the board of directors is committed to ensuring that Tidewater Arts Outreach will be sustained and supported into the future.  And I’m certain that MaryAnn will keep a watchful eye and helpful hand in its future endeavors.  We are truly grateful to MaryAnn for her inspirational leadership, passion, vision and hard work in building Tidewater Arts Outreach over many years.”

The upcoming change in leadership will not change our vision: To create a community where the healing power of the arts reaches those in need, inspiring creativity and bringing joy.

The 2018 Tidewater Arts Outreach Executive Director position description is on our website.  See, http://tidewaterartsoutreach.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/2018-TAO-ED-Position-Description-FINAL.pdf.

There has never been a better time to support Tidewater Arts Outreach and its training, advocacy and outreach programs.  The changes we have seen in elder care are encouraging and we are proud of the contributions we have made to their well-being and that of the community we serve, but there is much more to be done.  As a not-for-profit, we can help improve the quality of life for the oldest among us and assist those who care for them.  We can elevate the unique talents of our local artists and promote the arts as tools for better health, healing and community-building, all while bringing joy and enhancing well-being in elder care.  We hope you will join us now by supporting our mission, with donations, stories, posts, likes, mentions and even campaigns on social media.   Thank you!
